Access to Justice Committee

Mission

The purpose of the Committee is to enhance and promote access to civil legal services for all individuals by identifying and eliminating barriers to justice.

Time Commitment: The Committee meets approximately 4 - 6 times per year, usually for 2 hours.

Goals

The Access to Justice Committee will:

  • Advocate for policies and reforms that increase free or low-cost legal representation for low and middle-income individuals.
  • Enhance access to legal services for individuals in underserved and underrepresented communities.
  • Promote legal education to the public and raise awareness about the importance of access to justice and available resources.
  • Advance public and private funding of legal aid.
  • Implement processes for assessing need and measuring accomplishments.

Composition of the Committee:

  • Legal Professionals: Judges, attorneys, and legal scholars who have diverse expertise and community influence.
  • Technology Experts: Individuals knowledgeable in legal tech to explore innovative solutions.
  • Community Stakeholders: Representatives of legal services organizations, social service providers, and other entities that serve low-income and disadvantaged populations.
