Winner Named in 2026 Arizona Attorney Arts Competition in Music Category

Congratulations to Jade Wu, the 2026 winner of the annual Arizona Attorney Creative Arts Competition in Music. Her work – along with that of winners in all categories – is featured in our May 2025 issue.

Jade Wu composed music well before she was writing legal documents. Born in Hong Kong, she arrived in Los Angeles to join her parents at the age of 5. Soon thereafter, she started piano lessons. She remembers listening to music as a child and thinking, “There is another way this theme could go, and I can play that on the piano!” After college, Wu served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi and then as a humanitarian worker in Kosovo. Years later, after practicing law for a few years in Arizona, she worked in Iraq and Afghanistan as a federal government contractor. The overseas assignments enriched her knowledge of music by exposing her to other cultures and their music. In recent years, she worked in Washington, D.C., on federal contracts. Now she works remotely from home but continues to compose music. Her favorite pastime is recomposing Mozart piano sonatas and making them spoofs for her piano performances.

Because of obvious restrictions, a music winner’s work cannot be published in the magazine. But you can listen to Wu's piece below.
