State Bar President Issues Statement on Unexpected Passing of Former Bar President Attorney John J. Bouma
PHOENIX –Jan. 23, 2019 – The State Bar of Arizona is deeply saddened to announce the untimely death of longtime attorney John J. Bouma, Partner at Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix.
With an admirable legal career spanning nearly 57 years, John J. Bouma was an active member of the State Bar of Arizona who previously led the association as president of the Board of Governors. He was also the Arizona state representative to the ABA House of Delegates.
"Among John Bouma's many contributions to the legal profession was his service as President of the State Bar of Arizona from 1983 to 1984," said Jeffrey Willis, current President of the State Bar and Bouma’s partner at Snell & Wilmer. "John is recognized nationally as one of the finest lawyers in America. More importantly, his service to our shared community has made Arizona better in countless ways. We are truly saddened to lose such an important friend and leader. John will be sorely missed by all those who knew and respected him," Willis added.
Bouma, 82, died on Jan. 22 in a car/pedestrian accident near his home in Phoenix.
