The success of State Bar of Arizona CLE programming depends entirely on our volunteer seminar chairs and faculty. The AZCLE® Volunteer of the Month program is an opportunity for State Bar's CLE Department to recognize the hard work and dedication of our generous volunteers.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH - November/December 2018

Ms. Burns has been a Family Law Specialist certified by the State Bar of Arizona since 1994 and has practiced law in Arizona since 1984.  She is immediate past President of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), an international nonprofit organization of family court, legal and mental health professionals. Ms. Burns has been a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) since 2001.   She served as a Judge pro tem in Maricopa County Superior Court from 1992-2003, and was a member of the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Arizona from 1994-2007 and Chair of the Family Law Section in 1999-2000.  She served on the Arizona Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Procedure in Domestic Relations Cases for the duration of that Committee (July, 2003 through October, 2005), on the Supreme Court Family Law Rules Review Committee (2005-2007), and on the Family Law Practice and Procedure Committee of the State Bar of Arizona.  She is currently a member of the Task Force on the Arizona Rules of Family Procedure (2017-2019).  She speaks frequently for the State Bar of Arizona on various issues in family law practice, mediation, and parenting coordination. She is a co-author of the Thompson/ West publication Arizona Family Law Rules Handbook  which is updated annually.  Ms. Burns received the Community Legal Services/ Children’s Law Center Mentor of the Year Award in 2015 and the State Bar of Arizona Family Law Section Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.  She maintains an ADR and Parenting Coordinator practice, along with her representation of clients and frequently serves as mediator, Special Master, and arbitrator in family law matters.
