Hon. John R. Sticht Disability Achievement Award

Established in 2006 (amended language in 2015), the Hon. John R. Sticht Disability Achievement Award is  presented by the Board of Governors to recognize either a person(s) in the legal profession or a group, organization or employer, who or which furthers the goals of access to justice and the full participation for people with disabilities in the legal profession and justice system or a person(s) with disability who has demonstrated exceptional depth of inner strength, courage in the face of adversity, and tenacity of purpose.

Bridget O’Brien Swartz was born in Minnesota to a mother who is a first generation Spaniard and a father who was a university professor of German. Bridget attended the University of Notre Dame and following college, volunteered for a year at Covenant House in Texas—a shelter for runaway and homeless youth—where she met her husband, Jay. They are blessed with two daughters, Jaquelyn and Kasey.

After relocating to Arizona, Bridget attended Arizona State University where she obtained a Juris Doctor and Masters in Public Administration. Bridget’s legal career has been devoted to working with the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

Over the span of 25 years, Bridget has been a solo practitioner and practiced with several boutique law firms with Charles “Chick” Arnold, Chester “Chip” McLaughlin, Stephanie Bivens, and Jaburg & Wilk. Following a brief tenure as a Trust Officer, Bridget has been a partner at Dyer Bregman & Ferris for 4 years.

Bridget O’Brien Swartz is a Certified Elder Law Attorney and a Fellow of the American College of Estate and Trust Counsel. Bridget serves on the Boards of the Area Agency on Aging, Region One and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
