Attorney Barbara K. Berrett of Phoenix Suspended
for Failing to Manage Trust Accounts
Nov. 28, 2017 – PHOENIX – Attorney Barbara K. Berrett of Phoenix has been suspended from the practice of law after mismanaging trust accounts and failing to safe keep client property.
The Presiding Disciplinary Judge of the Arizona Supreme Court accepted an agreement for discipline by consent between Berrett and the State Bar of Arizona that resulted in a 90-day suspension.
Berrett conditionally admitted to mismanaging her client trust account, resulting in several violations including waiting a year to pay approximately $50,000.00 owed to a client. She failed to properly oversee the staff members who managed the account which led to the violations going unnoticed for an extended period of time.
Barbara K. Berrett’s 90-day suspension was effective Nov. 24, 2017. She was ordered to serve a two-year probation period upon reinstatement. Berrett was ordered to pay $1,200 for the costs and expenses incurred by the State Bar of Arizona.
