State Bar Urges Federal Action to Fill Judicial Vacancies
PHOENIX - May 24, 2011 - The State Bar of
Arizona has passed a resolution urging the Washington to fill
vacant federal judge positions.
The United States District Court for the District of Arizona
declared a judicial emergency on January21, 2011 after the tragic
and untimely death of Judge John Roll, which added a third judicial
vacancy.
The resolution, passed by the Bar's Board of Governors on May
20, hopes to address the increased criminal caseload, lack of
adequate resources and delayed process of justice. The following
requests have been made by the State Bar:
- The Board of Governors urges the Federal Government to take
swift action to fill judicial vacancies;
- The Board of Governors urges the Federal Government to take
consider additional judgeships in the District of Arizona;
- The Board of Governors urges the Federal Government to add more
court staff and facilities, particularly in the Tucson
Division.
The State Bar of Arizona will continue to inform its members of
the developments surrounding the judicial vacancies and their
requests to the Federal Government.
