Sharon A. Fullmer Legal Aid
Attorney of the Year Award
The Board of Governors first presented this award in 1997. It is bestowed on a legal services lawyer in Arizona whose service to low-income people encompasses both aggressive advocacy on behalf of individuals in extreme need as well as impact advocacy designed to address systemic issues affecting significant numbers of low-income people.
2012 Winner:
Mary V. Day, a staff attorney for Southern Arizona Legal Aid (SALA), Tucson Immigration Unit, has specialized in immigration at SALA since 1998. Her immigration work at SALA includes

direct representation of Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self-petitioners and applicants for adjustment of status, as well as U visa applicants. She is also involved in the development of instructional materials, outreach efforts, and training of advocates, service providers as well as law students and attorneys on the immigration aspects of VAWA. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She is also a member of the Southern Arizona Battered Immigrant Taskforce and is one of the Taskforce's primary trainers on VAWA, U visas and immigration law. Ms. Day graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law (now James E. Rogers College of Law) and has been licensed in Arizona since 1997.
