Each year, the Arizona Women Lawyers Association holds the Mary Anne Richey Scholarship Breakfast at the State Bar Convention. The scholarship and breakfast are named in honor of the late Honorable Mary Anne Richey, United States District Judge for the District of Arizona and a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Law.
At the breakfast, AWLA presents the Sarah Herring Sorin Award, named in honor of Sarah Herring Sorin (1861–1914), Arizona’s first woman lawyer and the 25th woman to be admitted to practice in the United States. The Sorin Award is given to an AWLA member who has demonstrated support and encouragement for the advancement of women in the legal profession. This year, AWLA confers the award upon the Honorable Patricia Orozco (ret.), of the Arizona Court of Appeals.

Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, and the Arizona Summit School of Law. Through the conversation, Ms. Peters will explore how the lawyer turned author uses his intimate familiarity with the legal world to develop the storylines in a book series and how that the same writing tips used by authors makes for better legal writing. Every lunch attendee will also receive a copy of Mr. Dugoni’s latest book, The Trapped Girl.
We will also honor State Bar members with our annual awards presentation and recognize those who have practiced law in the state for 50 years.
