Attorney/Consumer Assistance Program
The Lawyer Regulation Department of
the State Bar of Arizona has developed the Attorney/Consumer
Assistance Program (A/CAP) to help you if you are having a dispute
with your lawyer. If you want the assistance of A/CAP, please call
the A/CAP hotline at 602.340.7280. If you are outside Maricopa
County call 1.800.319.0514 x7280.
What is A/CAP?
The Attorney/Consumer Assistance
Program (A/CAP) is designed to quickly address
issues between lawyers and clients. A/CAP allows concerned
individuals--lawyers and consumers--to speak with a State Bar
lawyer who can help resolve minor issues and quickly refer more
serious matters for a full investigation.
Initially, A/CAP personnel will
talk with you about your case, explore the nature of your dispute
and the details of the actions of the lawyer. The lawyer in
A/CAP will then review this information and in most instances you
will receive a return phone call from one of
these lawyers to find out more about the problem you are
having. If appropriate, the A/CAP lawyer will help you in
trying to resolve this dispute with the lawyer.
If the charges are serious and not
appropriately resolved by A/CAP, the matter will be referred to bar
counsel for investigation. If it is
determined that an investigation is needed, you may be asked to
provide additional information in
writing.
