CERTIFIED SPECIALISTS

The State Bar of Arizona certifies attorneys as specialists in eight areas of law: Bankruptcy, Criminal, Estate & Trust, Family, Injury & Wrongful Death Litigation, Real Estate, Tax, and Workers' Compensation.   To become a certified specialist an attorney must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be admitted to the practice of law for at least 5 years (seven for Criminal and Real Estate Certification)
  2. Be admitted to the State Bar of Arizona for the 2 years immediately preceding submission of the application
  3. Devote the equivalent of 50% of a full time practice to the specialty area
  4. Pass a written examination (applicable to all applicants applying after 1990)
  5. Undergo Peer review
