Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee
The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Committee addresses situations and problems regarding discrimination against gays and lesbians within the legal profession and the justice system.
On February 14, 1997, the State Bar of Arizona's Board of Governors established the Gay & Lesbian Task Force to conduct a study of the State Bar of Arizona and the Justice System to determine whether there is discrimination against gays and lesbians, and if so, to make suggestions for remedies. The Task Force completed its survey of judges, attorneys, professors, law students and members of the gay and lesbian community. A report including recommendations was written to the Board of Governors. In October 1999, the Task Force became a State Bar standing committee known as the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee.
