State Bar of Arizona Annual Convention

Join us for the
2013 Annual Convention
from June 19-21, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa!

This year's highlights include:
State Bar Annual Luncheon
sponsored by Mandel Young PLC
on Friday, June 21 from noon to 2 p.m., features guest speaker, Justice Alan C. Page, Minnesota’s first African-American Supreme Court Justice.
Justice Page was elected to the court in 1992 and was reelected in 1998 and 2004. He is widely renowned for his former career as a professional football player. Elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988, he is best known for his defensive efforts with the Minnesota Vikings in the 1970s.
We will also honor State Bar members with our annual awards presentation and recognize those who have practiced law in the state for 50 years.
Battle of the Lawyer Bands
sponsored by the Phoenix School of Law
on Thursday, June 20 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Returning to the Battle from their victory at the 2011 Convention are Tucson’s roadhouse rockers, Los Big Grandes. Los Big Grandes are Judge Philip Espinosa (keyboards & vocals), Hardy Smith (vocal & guitar), Chris Smith (vocals & lead guitar), Keith Leon (drums), Gene Goldsmith (bass), Peter Akmajian (percussion) and Gary Blank (drums, percussion & vocals). Get ready to ride hard, Amigos!
Looking to unseat the 2011 champs are:
The Gotes, who boast that they can rock until the cops shut them down and then defend themselves against any charges. The Gotes include Pima County Assistant Public Defenders Frank Leto on drums, Richard Kingston on bass, Kevin Burke on guitar, and Staci Vierthaler on keyboards. To keep them within budget, Paul Lovelis from Administration joins them on the trombone. To add to their academic prestige, the Gotes feature U of A Law Professor Susie Salmon on vocals. And if he feels like he can stand spending his evening at a convention filled with lawyers, Electrical Engineer David Price will play saxophone. And,
Guilty as Sin. This band covers rock classics from Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac and others. An offshoot of the popular valley band Crazy Finger, Guilty as Sin features lawyers Leon Silver (bass) and Dan Orenstein (guitar) along with a handful of the usual suspects: Claire Sinne (Vocals) Thomas Oliver (guitar) and Bryan Hawkesworth (drums).
