LAW DAY

Law Day Overview

Who are the pirates of today? Some still roam the high seas. Others use the Internet to strike their victims. Piracy dates back to 1300 B.C. but continues today in many forms.

Use your wit and imagination to depict a pirate of the 21st century for this year’s Law Day Contest! Win some great prizes!

First place: Wii system
Second place: iPod touch
Third place: iPod shuffle

Each year on or about May 1, the State Bar of Arizona participates in Law Day, a nationally celebrated program sponsored by the American Bar Association. In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day to strengthen our country’s heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. Over the years, legal and civic organizations nationwide have used these general ideas to develop educational programs for the public.

This year the State Bar, the Superior Court in Maricopa County and the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education have partnered to sponsor an editorial cartoon contest on the theme, Modern Day Pirates: Piracy Laws & Issues in the 21st Century.

The contest is open to Arizona students enrolled in grades 9-12.

Cartoons may be submitted electronically to lawday@azbar.org
